Girl Scouts of the USA has amended its policies regarding the use of the Internet to support product sales. The Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore has incorporated these policy revisions into its own council guidelines which have been developed to provide members with guidance regarding the appropriate use of the Internet to support product sales.

• Girls may not sell council sponsored products via the Internet. Internet sales include any financial transactions on any website, including online auction sites such as eBay.
• Girls are permitted to market Girl Scout sponsored products using the Internet, including order taking. Marketing activities include advertising the sale, solicitation of sales and receipt of product orders. These orders must be delivered by the Girl Scout taking the order and payment must be received from the customer at the time of delivery.
• Girls must sign the "Internet Safety Pledge" found on the council web site.
• Girls must not market to individuals outside of the council’s jurisdiction and must refer any prospective customer from outside the council jurisdiction to their local council.
• Customers seeking Girl Scout cookies may also be referred to GSUSA's cookie website for help finding a local council to purchase from. Girls should consider limiting marketing activities to a specific area such as a zip code to make delivery of product easier. Girls may market to direct family members regardless of where they live.
• Girls can use email and age appropriate Internet functions as online marketing tools to let friends, family, and former customers know about the sale and make a commitment to buy. Use of these tools should have parental/guardian supervision.
• Girls or parent/guardians may not accept online payment for products sold using Internet marketing tools, including any form of prepayment for product not yet delivered. All payments must be made at the time of delivery of the product to the customer. Girl Scout magazine orders purchased through a vendor web site is an exception.
• Girls may not use a personal email account or provide any type of personal contact information. Instead, use a "blind" email address provided by a vendor, a group email address, a temporary email address, or a parent/guardian email address. We recommend using Little Brownie’s Cookie Club.
• Girls using social networking sites (such as Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace)  must follow the rules below:
  • The site must be approved by the council.
  • The girl must have parental/guardian permission.
  • The girl must meet minimum age requirements set by the provider, which is usually age 13.
  • Visit lmk.girlscouts.org for information and guidance about Internet safety.
  • Any appearance in an on-line video or picture must have parent/guardian permission using the council photo/video release form which should be retained by the troop/group leader or the council. A link to videos and/or pictures should be provided to the council as well. These links may be used to create a gallery of ideas to demonstrate the marketing skills created through Girl Scout product sale programs.
• Daisy Girl Scouts may only use email to solicit orders with strong parent/ guardian supervision using the guidelines above.
